Phishing and fake support in crypto

Most crypto is not lost to a blockchain hack but because someone typed a seed phrase or signed a transaction voluntarily.

What the attack looks like

You receive an email or message that appears to come from your wallet, exchange or bank, always with an urgent trigger.

The link leads to a cloned site asking for your seed phrase or asking you to connect and sign.

Fake support on Discord, Telegram and X

The moment you post a problem publicly, 'agents' appear in your DMs. Real support never contacts you first in private.

They send a 'validation tool' or ask you to share your screen; both end in access to your keys.

  • Support never DMs you first
  • Never share your screen while using a wallet
  • Never type your seed phrase digitally

Habits that protect you

Use bookmarks instead of search results. Paid ads above search results are a known route for cloned sites.

Keep the bulk on a hardware wallet and use a separate hot wallet with small amounts for experiments.

What a legitimate party never asks

No real service ever asks for your recovery words, private key, or an upfront payment to unlock a withdrawal.

In doubt, close the message and navigate to the service yourself via your bookmark.

Vanliga frågor

Can someone drain my wallet with just my address?

No. A public address is meant to be shared; loss requires your seed phrase or a signed malicious transaction.

Is a hardware wallet phishing-proof?

Largely, since keys never leave the device — but you can still sign a harmful transaction, so read the screen.

What if I clicked a phishing link?

Do not connect your wallet. If you signed something, move funds to a new wallet and revoke approvals immediately.
