Go to the trade hubThe delta-neutral idea
Spot gains offset short losses and vice versa, keeping dollar value roughly flat. Yield comes from staking rewards and positive funding paid to shorts, and accrues only to the staked version of the token.
Negative funding is the core risk
When funding turns negative, shorts pay and value leaks from the backing. An insurance fund is meant to bridge those periods, so judge USDe on fund size relative to supply rather than today's peg.
Exchange and custody risk
Hedges sit on centralised derivatives venues while collateral is held off-exchange with custodians. Venue failure still forces the hedge to move, possibly at a bad moment.
Regulation
With no redemption at par from a licensed issuer, USDe does not fit the MiCA e-money token regime, limiting EU availability. Treat it as a yield product, not as cash.

Frequently asked questions
Is USDe backed by dollars?
No — by hedged crypto positions.
Where does the yield come from?
Staking rewards and positive perpetual funding.
What if funding turns negative?
The insurance fund absorbs it; prolonged stress pressures the backing.
Does MiCA cover it?
It does not fit the e-money token regime, so EU access is limited.
