Tether (USDT) is een stablecoin die als doel heeft één-op-één gekoppeld te blijven aan de Amerikaanse dollar. The network is maintained by a distributed group of participants rather than a single central party.
Because the network's rules are laid down in open-source software, anyone can verify how transactions are processed and how new units are created.
How the network works
Tether uses proof-of-stake (op onderliggende ketens) to confirm transactions and secure the network without a bank or payment provider in between.
Transactions are grouped into blocks that are added to the chain after verification, after which they generally cannot be reversed.
What drives the price
Cryptocurrency prices are set by supply and demand on global trading venues and tend to move more sharply than traditional asset classes.
Factors often cited include vertrouwen in de reserves van de uitgever, liquiditeit en regelgeving rond e-money tokens, macroeconomic developments and changes in regulation. Block #9 does not make price predictions; the figure shown is for information only.
Regulation and availability in Europe
Under the EU's MiCA regulation, stablecoins like this one fall under the e-money token (EMT) regime. Issuers must hold reserves and accept supervision by a European regulator.
Platforms offering this stablecoin in the EU must hold the MiCA licence required for crypto-asset service providers.
Buying or swapping Tether via Block #9
Through Block #9 you can buy or swap Tether without your balance sitting on a central exchange: you keep control of your own keys (self-custody).
Swaps are routed via decentralised liquidity (DEX routing), giving you a market-based price without an intermediary holding your USDT for you.
Risks
Even a stablecoin is not risk-free. If the issuer's reserves prove insufficient or insufficiently liquid, the coin can temporarily or structurally deviate from its dollar peg (depeg risk).
Counterparty risk with the issuer, wallet custody risk and evolving regulation remain relevant considerations.
