NVDA

Nvidia (NVDA)

Nvidia started out selling graphics cards to gamers and became the backbone of the AI economy. Training a large language model almost always means renting Nvidia hardware.

Układy

Kurs orientacyjny, opóźniony. To nie jest porada inwestycyjna.

What the company builds

Nvidia designs GPUs: chips that run thousands of calculations in parallel, exactly what training and serving AI models requires. Manufacturing is outsourced, mostly to TSMC in Taiwan.

On top of chips it sells complete server systems and data-centre networking, so customers buy compute factories rather than components.

  • Data-centre GPUs for training and inference
  • Networking gear that links thousands of chips
  • CUDA, the software layer developers depend on

Where revenue comes from

Data centres dominate the top line. Buyers are cloud providers and AI labs, so a handful of customers account for a large share of sales.

Gaming, professional visualisation and automotive are the smaller legacy segments.

The crypto connection

Before the AI boom, Nvidia cards were popular with Ethereum miners. That demand largely disappeared when Ethereum moved to proof of stake in 2022; bitcoin mining runs on dedicated ASICs.

Today the overlap is mostly infrastructure: the same data centres, the same energy debate and partly the same investors.

Risks to watch

Customer concentration, export rules towards China and the question of whether cloud capital spending keeps growing at this pace. Google, Amazon and Microsoft are also building in-house AI chips.

The valuation leaves little room for disappointment: small changes in expectations move the share price sharply.

Najczęstsze pytania

Why is Nvidia so dominant in AI?

Less about raw silicon than about CUDA, the software researchers have used for fifteen years. Switching vendors means rewriting code.

Can AMD take market share?

AMD ships competitive hardware and is gaining ground in inference, but its software ecosystem trails. Shifts happen gradually.

Does Nvidia still benefit from crypto?

Barely. Ethereum no longer mines on GPUs and bitcoin uses ASICs. AI demand dwarfs it.
