Launched in 2018 with US trust escrow, TUSD later moved to Techteryx and to custodians outside the US. The brand stayed the same; the structure did not.
The reserve controversy
Reports that part of the reserve sat in illiquid products, along with delayed redemptions and US enforcement action, pushed the price below a dollar at times. Liquidity of the reserve matters more than the headline ratio.
Liquidity and use
Volume fell sharply after zero-fee promotions ended; there is little reason to prefer it for storage over larger regulated stablecoins.
Europe
No MiCA authorisation, so no free retail offering on EU platforms.
